Walking according to the Lord's will
Disclaimer: To understand the Lord's spiritual truth, you must be born from above by his Holy Spirit. Be sure you've submitted yourself to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and receive this gift from the Lord, lest you add knowledge with no power and are held eternally accountable.
Introduction
Good evening everyone, watch this, from memory: こにいちは, 私はColinです, はみめまして。日本語ので学生です。[よろしく]お願いします。It says, "Hello, my name is Colin, nice to meet you. I'm a Japanese language student. Please look favorably upon me." The only part I messed up was the part I put in brackets. Pretty awesome, I'm starting to understand that basic X and Y structure to sentences. Noticed I used は,の,です in those sentences properly :)
My day went good, drove back to my working city, and tried to cut my hair but my razor was out of battery, so I spent the day charging it instead. Tomorrow if it doesn't rain, I'll show before and after pictures for your edification. Worked my second job, very busy today! Check out these 3 isles full of liquor at a Walmart in the town I was in. It's a college town but, it's like a whole alcohol department in the food section, pretty incredible. There's nothing wrong with alcohol in itself, drinking some here and there is perfectly fine and can have some good benefits, but the college world chases the drinking parties and drunkenness, I know, I was in college once, though I never got drunk. The Lord calls us out of that world to holiness, and praise God he does!
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” (Ephesians 5:18, KJV)
“Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.” (1 Timothy 5:23, KJV)

Notes on the Lord's Will
So, I wanted to share some notes I wrote today. It was put on my heart to study prayer, but this led me to study more about the Lord's will. Test these notes to God's word, and I hope you're edified by them!
Praying in the Lord's Will
“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,” (Jude 1:20, KJV)
"praying"
proseuchomai
pros-yoo'-khom-ahee
From G4314 and G2172; to pray to God, that is, supplicate, worship: - pray (X earnestly, for), make prayer.
The definition you'll find of "supplicate" in the dictionaries is along the lines of: asking for something humbly and earnestly, from a lower position.
As a servant of the Most High, I'm commanded to pray always.
“Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2, KJV)
“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” (Luke 21:36, KJV)
“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.” (Romans 12:12-13, KJV)
“Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;” (Colossians 4:2, KJV)
“Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17, KJV)
In total the word "pray" and it's variants appear ~174 times in the NT. Prayer is a vital part of my walk with the Lord, and every saints walk. But the question then arises, if we're to pray always, what are we to pray for?
“And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.” (Luke 11:2-4, KJV)
- The Lord's will be done
- Asking for daily necessities
- Forgiveness of sins
- Guidance away from temptation, and out of evil

“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (1 John 2:17, KJV)
Choosing Man's Will
In the word of God, the Lord outlines various different "wills."
“Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:13, KJV)
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:21, KJV)
- Will of the flesh
- Will of man
- Will of God
What does "will" mean biblically?
"will"
thelēma
thel'-ay-mah
From the prolonged form of G2309; a determination (properly the thing), that is, (actively) choice (specifically purpose, decree; abstractly volition) or (passively) inclination: - desire, pleasure, will.
So, the flesh has a determination, man has a determination, then God has his holy determination. Man has a choice to obey the will of God, or the will of the flesh/man. Some examples of men choosing poorly.
Jonah flees from the Lord
“Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.” (Jonah 1:1-3, KJV)
Peter rebukes Jesus
“From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” (Matthew 16:21-23, KJV)
Peter denies Jesus
“And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.” (Matthew 26:73-75, KJV)
Simon tries to buy the Holy Spirit
“And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.” (Acts 8:18-23, KJV)
Ananias and Saphira lie to God
“But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.” (Acts 5:3-5, KJV)
Elymas the sorcerer resists the Lord
“But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.” (Acts 13:8-11, KJV)
Hymenaeus and Alexander blaspheme the truth
“Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck: Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.” (1 Timothy 1:19-20, KJV)
Demas loved the world
“For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.” (2 Timothy 4:10, KJV)
Submitting to the Lord's Will
So, it's clear I can choose to do God's will and purpose for myself, or my own. When I pray, I should pray that God's will be done, not my own, not the world's. This is exampled by the Lord Jesus.
“Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” (Luke 22:42, KJV)
“Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” (Hebrews 5:7-9, KJV)
The Lord exampled the submission to God's will though he would have to suffer a cruel death for the sin of mankind. The request to take the cup from him was made known to the Father, yet the willingness to submit to anything the Father willed was present.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, KJV)
The submissive state comes from crucifying the flesh, your own will, and serving the will of God in all things. Well, then I have to ask the question, what is the will of God concretely? How can I define that? By reading the word of God, and understanding the spiritual truths, I can understand the will of God.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2, KJV)
The renewing (renovation) of the mind comes from knowledge of God's word, and daily obeying and applying it.
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32, KJV)
The Lord's will is that I be set free from sin and death.
“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8, KJV)
As I said, this is done by knowledge of God's word, understanding the spiritual truth, and applying it daily. The Lord will lead me into more and more truth when I apply what I've been given, thus I'll know the will of God. For example:
- Biblical dress for men is a long, loose, unadorned, plain, tunic-like garment that covers the form, and archetypes Jesus shed blood.
That's the will of God, that men clothe themselves like that. I know that because the word of God says that's how men are to clothe themselves. I then apply it to my life, and walk in it daily. This would be walking according to the will of God. Seek to know the will of God, then when God shows it to you, apply it to your life, and you'll be walking in his will according to his word. For situations not clear in the word of God, ask God for wisdom and discernment to rightly apply the knowledge according to God's will blamelessly. For example:
- I want to travel to a certain area to preach the Gospel. I know it's the Lord's will I go and preach the Gospel (Mark 16:15), but it may not be his will I go to that specific place. I would then pray that the Lord opens the doors in the place I want to go, and if he wills it be so, it will happen, and if not, he'll point me in a different direction.
We see this in Acts...
“Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.” (Acts 16:6-7, KJV)
The Lord controls all things, and I'm his servant. Though I have plans, the Lord has plans too, and I'm to be submitted to his plans above my own. It's his will not mine that should be done, therefore I'm called to pray for such, because his will is good (I'm only a man, my vision is shortsighted). This isn't means to say I shouldn't plan and aim for certain targets, but the Lord is at liberty to shift the direction according to his will.
Like a ship, you set off sailing in a certain direction, but the wind shifts out of nowhere and the waves push the ship towards a different landing point. Paul was shipwrecked on an island off his original course, yet because of this, was able to heal a man who fell ill.
“In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously. And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.” (Acts 28:7-8, KJV)
The Lord controls the wind and sea
“And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” (Mark 4:37-41, KJV)
God keeps men alive
“My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.” (Psalms 31:15, KJV)
The Lord is our helper, not the things we possess
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” (Hebrews 13:5-6, KJV)
God's will is good
“And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.” (Mark 10:18, KJV)

I'll be reviewing vocab and sentence structure today, and I think adding a few more words to the mix! It's very convenient to have an app for memorization while I work, so when I take my breaks, I can quick do a review.
Closing Reflections
Beware of the Anabaptists readers and seekers. Though they seem pious outwardly, they have many many man-made traditions outside of God's truth that void their worship. The reason I bring it up is I saw a few Anabaptists come in for pizza today, being in Missouri, a hotspot for their communities.
Continue to seek God's kingdom, and always be ready to give an answer saints. Pray that God's will be done in all things, not your own, not the world's. Know his will by his word, and walk in it daily! The Lord deserves the glory now and forever.
